After fairly static trading between 2010 and 2011, the Pound Sterling to South African Rand (GBP/ZAR) exchange rate rallied from 10.38 Rand to a high of 18.23 Rand in early 2014.

As an emerging-market currency, the Rand tends to depreciate in times of volatility and the GBP/ZAR pairing was able to record notable gains during the serious South African mining strikes in both 2013 and 2014.
